AI for You, AI for Your Business: Why Claude Team and Enterprise Are Different

Same Claude, different rules. What changes between personal plans and Claude for business, on data, training, control and compliance, and how to check whether your business is ready for AI.

The short version

Claude is the same AI whether you use it on a personal plan or through your company. What changes is everything around it: whose terms apply, whether your chats can be used to train future models, who controls access, and what happens to the data when someone leaves.

For personal use, Free, Pro and Max are excellent. For work that involves customer data, contracts, financials or anything confidential, Claude Team and Enterprise exist for a reason. And before choosing either, it helps to know whether your business is ready for AI at all, which is where an AI readiness assessment comes in.

The quiet risk: work on personal accounts

In most companies, people started using AI on their own. A personal Pro account to write faster, summarise meetings, or tidy up a proposal. It feels harmless, and often it is.

The problem is what gets pasted in. Customer lists, contracts, pricing, staff records, board papers. On a personal plan, consumer terms apply, and each user decides in their own settings whether their chats can help train future models. If that setting is on, chats can be kept for up to five years. The company has no say, no visibility and no way to take the data back.

For businesses in Malaysia, that sits awkwardly with the Personal Data Protection Act, which expects you to know where personal data goes and to protect it. We covered what that means for customer data in our guide to customer data privacy.

The same request on two kinds of account. The AI is the same; the terms, controls and ownership are not. Illustrative screens.

What actually differs between the plans

Anthropic splits Claude into consumer plans (Free, Pro and Max) and commercial plans (Team, Enterprise and the API). Here is how they compare on the things a business cares about.

Which one fits

Personal: Free, Pro or Max
For individuals learning, writing and researching on their own. Fine for work that never touches customer or company-confidential data.
Claude Team
For teams of 2 to 150. Company sign-in, central billing and admin, shared projects, and business data kept out of training by default.
Claude Enterprise
For larger and regulated organisations. Adds user provisioning, audit logs, a Compliance API, role-based access and custom data retention.

Banks, insurers, healthcare providers and anyone with strict regulators should start the conversation at Enterprise, because audit trails and retention controls are what auditors ask for first.

Licences are the easy part

Buying seats takes minutes. Getting value takes more: deciding which work AI should help with, which data it may touch, how it connects to systems like Salesforce, and how people are trained to use it well and safely.

That is how Telcowin approaches Claude. We plan the workflow before we touch the model, set the guardrails against local laws and your industry's rules, and then roll out to the teams where it will pay off first. See how we work with Claude.

Start with an AI readiness assessment

Before choosing a plan or a use case, find out where you stand. The Telcowin AI Readiness Assessment asks 14 questions about your data, your processes, your governance and your teams. It takes about three minutes, gives you a readiness score straight away, and recommends the one use case we would start with.

The Telcowin AI Readiness Assessment: 14 questions on your data, processes, governance and teams, about 3 minutes, with an instant score and a recommended first use case. Sample result shown.

Where to start

1
Find out where AI is already used
Ask teams which AI tools they use and what data goes in. Most companies are surprised.
2
Take the AI readiness assessment
Get a score across data, process, governance and people, and a first use case.
3
Move work onto business accounts
Set up Claude Team or Enterprise with company sign-in, and retire personal use for work data.
4
Write the rules, then scale
A short policy on what data can go in, approved connectors, and training for every user.
